After a decade of working to create a safe and reliable 100% beeswax Yahrtzeit candle, we finally tried a different strategy. Narrow Bridge Candles worked intensively with collaborators this past year to formulate a new Yahrtzeit candle we are very proud of!
The new formulation includes a small percentage of 100% pure coconut wax (in order to lower the melting point of the candle) and create a ritual tool you can depend on for this important day in your ancestor honoring practice. The candle still smells and looks like beeswax, with no dyes and perfumes added, and this is the only candle in the Narrow Bridge Candles collection that is not 100% beeswax.
We hope this renewed offering will nourish your spirit, hold you in your grief, and bring supportive ritual into your yearly rhythms.
Traditionally in Judaism, a Yahrtzeit candle is lit in observance of the anniversary of the death of a loved one, and during the Yizkor* service.
This Yahrtzeit candle is made to hold space for any kind of grief or loss, including but not limited to, chosen family, moments of collective grief, and commemoration of moments of loss in history.
- Yizkor is a memorial service that is held 4 times a year - Yom Kippur, the last (8th) day of Sukkot, the last (8th) day of Passover, and the last (2nd) day of Shavuot. It is an opportunity to grieve among community throughout the year.
